Lady Gaga Cancels Indonesia Concert After Violent Threats

Lady GaGa has cancelled her Indonesian tour dates, following pressure from conservative religious groups, Afp reported yesterday (May 27, 2012). The 'Born This Way' singer has faced several bouts of opposition as she travels around the world on her tour but refuses to 'tone down' her show to appease the protesters.

On May 26, Lady Gaga posted a telling message on Twitter that simply read "There is nothing Holy about hatred." Then, the following day, she announced that the concert in Indonesia wouldn't be going ahead and told her 24 million Twitter followers "We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia. I'm so very sorry to the fans [and] just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me." She later tried to reassure her Indonesian fans that she would try to perform for them another time, saying "I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown. GagaSendsLoveToJakarta and all its people."

Jakarta police refused a license for the concert earlier this month, after the Islamic Defenders Front threatened violence if Gaga's concert went ahead. The promoter, Big Daddy have attributed the cancellation of the concert to the threats of violence, saying "The cancellation is really due to concerns over security." The Islamic Defenders Front have responded to news of the cancellation by saying "Fpi is grateful that she has decided not to come. Indonesians will be protected from sin brought about by this Mother Monster, the destroyer of morals."
