Lady Antebellum Win Big At Acm Awards
LADY ANTEBELLUM were triple winners at the 2010 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday (18Apr10).
The Tennessee trio was awarded Song of the Year and Single of the Year honours for Need You Now and the group was also named Best Vocal Group.
Speaking after their second win of the night, band member Charles Kelley said, "We're living our dream right now. We've waited our whole lives for this."
Meanwhile, Miranda Lambert, who opened the show with Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, John Fogerty and Charlie Daniels, received two awards - Video of the Year for White Liar and Album of the Year for Revolution. Brad Paisley picked up the Best Male Vocalist prize.
Other big winners included Carrie Underwood, who was awarded the coveted Entertainer of the Year title - the first female to have received the honour twice.
Newcomer Luke Bryan walked away with two awards - for Top New Artist and Top New Solo Vocalist.
Taylor Swift had been nominated for five Academy of Country Music Awards, but she failed to win any prizes during the Las Vegas ceremony.
Show host Reba MCEntire proved to be a big hit with her comedy routine, poking fun at the recent spate of celebrity cheaters.
She opened the ceremony by joking, "We've had a great year in country music. Lots of songs about Cowboy Casenovas, White Liars and Two-Timing Men - and I'd like to thank Tiger Woods and Jesse James for inspiring us all."
Highlights of the show included performances by Brad Paisley, who ended his set by handing his guitar to fans and falling into a pool of water, and Taylor Swift and Toby Keith's touching tribute to late basketball star and jazz great Wayman Tisdale, who lost his battle with cancer last May (09). Tisdale was Keith's guest at last year's ACMs.
The ceremony also marked the beginning of the end of Brooks & Dunn's illustrious career - the duo made its last appearance at the event. Brooks & Dunn will split later this year (10).
