Labeouf Confirms Indiana Jones Role

13 April 2007
After weeks of speculation and denials, actor SHIA LaBEOUF has confirmed he'll play adventurer INDIANA JONES' "sidekick" in the much-anticipated fourth instalment of the film franchise.
In recent interviews, the Holes star has insisted the reports about his involvement in the film were just rumours. He now explains he was forbidden from talking about the part by film producer George Lucas and director Steven Spielberg.
LaBeouf tells USA Today newspaper, "Up until two weeks ago it was little more than a rumour. Literally, when I was saying, 'I don't know anything,' I didn't know anything... I have not read a script, I don't think anybody has."
In confirming the news, Spielberg says, "Shia has extraordinary range. I think of him as the young man for all seasons."
But the actor, 20, insists he can't comment on speculation he'll play Indiana Jones' son in the new movie.
He adds, "I can tell you that I'm sort of the sidekick character."
LaBeouf insists there's very little he can reveal about the fourth film - because the whole project is shrouded in secrecy.
He explains he had a list of questions for Lucas when he met the movie mogul for the first time to discuss the film: "Lucas looks at you and says simply, 'I can't tell you that.'
"Then, when he thinks he is supposed to tell you something but isn't sure, he gets up and leaves the room, goes in to talk with Spielberg and comes back and says, 'Nope, sorry.'"
Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Jones in the new movie and Cate Blanchett has signed on to play his love interest. Lucas and Spielberg are still trying to persuade Sean Connery to reprise his role as the adventurer's father.
