Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue has picked up another award to add to her brimming collection.

The former Neighbours star was honoured with The Music Industry Trust gong last night in London.

It recognises her contribution to pop music over the last 20 years and makes her the first female to scoop the prize in 16 years of its existence.

Previous winners include Sir George Martin, Sir Elton John and Peter Gabriel and Minogue said to join such an exclusive list was an "incredible honour".

As part of the ceremony at the capital's posh Grosvenor House hotel, the 39-year-old was lauded by friends and colleagues on a video montage.

Sting and Dame Edna Everage's Australian creator Barry Humphries were among those paying tribute, while the singer's sister X Factor judge Dannii Minogue hailed her sister's "amazing journey".

Bestowing the latest honour on Kylie, award committee chairman David Munn said: "There is No Doubt that of our 15 award recipients to date, Kylie is by far the most glamorous.

"She deserves this award for her success over 20 years, staying at the top in one of the toughest professions and inspiring millions with her grace, dignity and humanity."

The Melbourne-born singer has previously won Grammy, Brit and Ivor Novello Awards as well as a host of others already adorning her mantelpiece.

Her latest album, X, is due out next month, preceded by her first single since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, 2 Hearts.
