Myleene Klass - Klass Encourages Youth To Go Into Medicine

British singer MYLEENE KLASS is urging youngsters to abandon their pop star dreams and consider careers in medicine - because she's convinced helping others is "more worthwhile than anything else".

The former Hear'Say star recently volunteered to work in a maternity ward in a London hospital and was put to work alongside midwives and doctors, comforting pregnant women and helping out in the birthing suites.

And she insists the experience made her realise there are more satisfying jobs than performing in the spotlight.

In a column in Britain's Mail on Sunday, Klass writes, "It's an exhausting job: I sat with one mum-to-be in labour for 17 hours. I held her hand the whole time. She was having a similar labour to my own and I was able to reassure her.

"I know this might sound strange coming from me, but when I think of all the kids out there who want to be TV presenters or pop stars, I want them to realise that there's another fantastic career here in the hospital - one that makes a real difference to people's lives and is more worthwhile than almost anything else.

"And there's such a shortage of midwives that hospitals are crying out for more staff. I think if I ever had to have a career change, I’d want to become a midwife. I can’t think of anything that would give such satisfaction. I can’t wait to go back."
