Kitty Wells Laid To Rest
The 92 year old passed away last week (16Jul12) following complications from a stroke, and she was remembered by friends and family members at the Hendersonville Church of Christ on Friday.
The ceremony was officiated by Brother Steve North and Eddie Stubbs, her former fiddle player, and guests like Skaggs, gospel group The Whites, and country singers Bill Anderson, Connie Smith and Marty Stuart all showed up to pay their last respects.
Speaking to a crowd of mourners, Stubbs said, "Let's all stand together and give Kitty Wells the biggest round of applause ever given to her. It's one thing to make a contribution in life; it's another to make a difference. Kitty did both."
Skaggs and The Whites later took to the stage to perform a few tunes, including Precious Memories and I Saw the Light, with the bluegrass star adding, "We get to honour a lot of people at funerals. But it's not every day you get to honour a queen. She carried that mantle with dignity, honour and grace. She was very humble and unique."
Wells was later buried at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
