Kingsley Pays Tribute To `Nazi Hunter' Wiesenthal In Berlin
Oscar winner SIR BEN KINGSLEY poured praise on Nazi hunter SIMON WIESENTHAL at the Berlin Film Festival yesterday (11FEB07) at a premiere of a documentary about the Holocaust survivor.
Kingsley, who appears in the film, I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN YOU: THE LIFE + LEGACY OF SIMON WIESENTHAL, told reporters he has nothing but respect for the Jew who spent over 50 years tracking down Nazi war criminals.
After the screening of the hard-hitting documentary, Kingsley told reporters, "Simon was interested in the truth."
The actor, who portrayed Wiesenthal in a 1989 movie, revealed he had befriended the Nazi hunter before his death last year (06), and heard the Jewish hero recount his harrowing Holocaust drama.
The GANDHI star also recalled one of his final conversations with Wiesenthal, when the actor asked why he had remained in Austria, despite the country's notorious Nazi past.
He stated, "Simon said, 'If you want to cure malaria, you have to live with the mosquitoes.'"
The documentary, which is narrated by NICOLE KIDMAN, features images of Wiesenthal cut from archive footage and interviews.
