Kim Kardashian was on the receiving end of a torrent of abuse after posting a Tweet in support of Israel following the attack in Jerusalem by Palestinian Hamas militants, an attack that was provoked by the Israeli killing of a Hamas military chief.

The reality star was sent anti-Semitic abuse and death threats after posting the Tweet, The Hollywood Reporter has said, with the socialite posting a pro-Palestine Tweet soon after, before removing both of the Tweets all together. The Israeli post in question read: "Praying for everyone in Israel."

Some of the threats she received were just insulting to her, with one response being: “Further enhancing your reputation as a dumb porn star,” whilst one follower wrote: "You are a disgrace to your people and your ancestors," in reference to Kardashian's Armenian ancestry. However a number of other angry pro-Palestine Twitter users were much less polite and wish actual harm, and death, on the celebrity. Some of the worst responses to the pro-Israeli Tweet read: “Kill yourself,” “Die in HELL!” and “ill pray you will die kim,” as well as a few others that would be best left unrepeated.

After deleting the Tweets, a move that was also met with controversy, Kim posted a explanation behind both Tweets on her blog that said she realised that the Tweets have clearly "upset" some people and for that she is deeply sorry. She added: "I should have pointed out my intentions behind these tweets when I posted them. The fact is that regardless of religion and political beliefs, there are countless innocent people involved who didn't choose this, and I pray for all of them and also for a resolution. I also pray for all the other people around the world who are caught in similar crossfires."
