Kilmer The Frontrunner To Play James In Biopic

VAL KILMER is set to play another music great in a biopic about CRIMSON & CLOVER hitmaker TOMMY JAMES.
The actor, who played Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors, is in talks to portray James in a new film based on the singer's autobiography, Me, The Mob And The Music.
In an interview to be aired on BlogTalkRadio.com on Friday (12Mar10), James claims his producer partners are keen to make a start on the film about his amazing life - and are hoping to release it by the end of 2011.
He says, "We'll be making a major announcement in about three weeks. One of the actors who's being looked at seriously to play me is Val Kilmer. He's very musical and of course he can act and do anything.
"But probably, because of the huge time span of the book - which starts in the 60s and ends in the 90s, it may have to be two actors; a young Tommy and an older Tommy."
Last year (09), James - the leader of pop band The Shondells - told WENN he was hoping Martin Scorsese's interest in his story would prompt the director to get involved with the film.
He explained, "We got the book deal in 2008 and within just a few weeks of that we were toying with doing a movie, and then, all of a sudden, we get a call from Martin Scorsese's office. Then I had to finish the book in six weeks.
"I was incredibly honoured that he was interested in making the book into a movie. It just fell out of heaven. He's the only one who could do it justice because it's a combination of rock 'n' roll and wiseguys.
"He happened to be a fan and he'll be directing the film through Triangle Pictures. This is a dream come true and I'm flabbergasted. It's just in the beginning stages and I have no idea who's gonna play me. I'm too close to it. I would like to make a cameo appearance - like the janitor at (record label) Roulette Records, maybe the elevator operator.
"The reason it's all such a compelling story is what Roulette Records was. I was there for the bulk of my career and Roulette Records was a front for the Genovese crime family. We didn't know that when we signed in 1966. Here we were making these pop records and there is this really hairy story going on behind it."
It is not known if Scorsese is still involved in the movie.
