Jeff Wadlow - Kick-ass 2 To Shoot This Year

'Kick-Ass 2' is set to begin shooting this year.

Universal have reportedly approached Jeff Wadlow to direct the script he has written for the film, which has been approved by 'Kick-Ass' director Matthew Vaughn.

Universal have also opened talks with three of the original film's stars, with Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse all expected to return, according to Deadline.

Matthew will return to the sequel as a producer but his commitments to 'X-Men: First Class 2' have prevented him from taking on directing duties again.

Jane Goldman, who wrote the screenplay for the first movie, previously admitted she was ''amazed'' at the response Chloe - who played foul-mouthed 11-year-old assassin Hit Girl - had for the part.

She said: ''We didn't set out to shock, we just wanted to tell a good story.

''I was a little bit amazed that the Americans were more offended by the C-word than by the fact Hit-Girl was cutting people's legs off.''

'Kick-Ass' - which starred Aaron as the titular hero - made $96 million worldwide on its release in 2010.

Kick-Ass 2 3817343 Film Reviews

New writer-director Wadlow (Never Back Down) makes one severe misstep with this sequel to Matthew Vaughn's snappy 2010 Kick-Ass: he loses the irony. Now everything is played for goofy laughs and indulgent grisliness. There's no longer any subtext, nothing original in the structure or premise and a clear fear of being politically incorrect. Even so, it's an entertaining romp with a steady stream of funny gags.

After the craziness of the first film, Dave (Taylor-Johnson) has hung up his Kick-Ass costume and is trying to be a regular teen at school, but he's jealous of Mindy (Moretz) secretly carrying on her training as Hit Girl. So he asks her to team up and teach him some new tricks. But when her guardian (Chestnut) finds out, she promises to give up the violence and go back to school. Now Dave has to find a new partner, so he joins a lively team of underground heroes led by the gung-ho Captain Stars and Stripes (Carrey). But Dave's old nemesis Chris (Mintz-Plasse) still wants to avenge his father's death, so he abandons his dodgy heroic alter-ego Red Mist and instead becomes a supervillain called The Mother F**ker, with his own butler-assistant (Leguizamo) and a crew of minions.

Wadlow briskly leaps from one action set-piece to the next, and each scene has a witty sense of humour about it, even if the extreme violence is played for rather glamorised fun rather than the shock-value of the first film. Through everything, the dialog is packed with amusing lines that keep us laughing. And Mindy's parallel plot has its moments as well, throwing her in with the school's mean girls, who clearly don't know who they're messing with. Moretz plays Mindy so well that she makes everyone else feel scruffy and simplistic by comparison. Carrey's muscled meathead is a startlingly against-type role that strangely refuses to go anywhere. But Glen is rivetingly sharp in one key scene.

On the other hand, film itself is rather soft and sloppy. Aside from the lack of originality and the fondness for violence, the action scenes are so cartoonish that they provide very few thrills. The whole story is a build-up to a climactic showdown between Dave and Chris, but the clash feels trite and predictable, including the sexist sidelining of Mindy to battle Chris' female goon (Kurkulina). That said, there are some pointed comments about bullying and homophobia along the way. And a post-credit sting that leaves the door open for part 3.

Dave and Mindy have been forced to abandon their Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl monikers following the defeat of ruthless crime boss Frank D'Amico and the death of Mindy's father Big Daddy. Dave goes back to his school life, while Mindy enrols alongside with him and struggles to fit in amongst her fellow female classmates. However, their 'normal lives' don't last when a new group of masked crime-fighters hit the streets led by the patriotic Colonel Stars and Stripes and they decide it's time to do what they think's right and join with them. It's just as well too, as D'Amico's vengeful son Red Mist has adopted a new alter-ego, The Motherf*****, and is attempting to rally an army of supervillains - with names like Black Death, Mother Russia and Genghis Carnage - to take Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl down.

'Kick-Ass 2' is the hilarious sequel to 2010's 'Kick-Ass' and is based on the comic books of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. The movie adaptation has been directed and written by Jeff Wadlow ('Never Back Down', 'Cry_Wolf') taking over from Matthew Vaughn ('X-Men: First Class', 'Stardust', 'Layer Cake').  It is due to reach UK cinemas soon on August 16th 2013.

After their previous caped capering defeating mob boss Frank D'Amico, things seem back to normal for Dave Lizewski and Mindy who have abandoned their respective Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl monikers in favour of a regular high-school life. Mindy struggles to fit in, however, and when Dave tells her of the new generation of crime-fighting, masked civilians, the offer to get back on the streets of New York seems too good to turn down. This new league of superheroes is led by the formidable Colonel Stars and Stripes who encourages his co-crusaders, above all else, to have fun. Though when news of Red Mist, the son of the now deceased D'Amico who now dubs himself The Motherf*****, rallying together an army of supervillains to take on Kick-Ass and his cohorts, things seem less than enjoyable for the teenage heroes.

Following on from 'Kick-Ass', based on the comic books of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita. Jr, the release of 'Kiss-Ass 2' is now imminent. It has been directed and written by Jeff Wadlow ('Never Back Down', 'Cry_Wolf') who has taken over from Matthew Vaughn ('X-Men: First Class', 'Stardust', 'Layer Cake') of the original movie, and who sees our two favourite comedy superheroes even more intimidating than before. It is set to hit the US on August 16th 2013.

The trailer for 'Kick Ass 2' is finally here showcasing yet more hilarious superhero capers from Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s lovable comic duo Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl.

The first taste of the multiple award winning superhero comedy movie sequel has arrived with the exciting red band trailer. It opens with Chloe Grace Moretz displaying her usual feisty Hit-Girl attitude as she and Aaron Johnson's Kick-Ass show that they've done some serious training since the original movie in 2010. We also see the return of Christopher Mintz-Plasse, whose formidable Red Mist character has morphed into the supervillain The Motherf***** with revenge on his mind as goes about building a destructive army to avenge his father against Kick-Ass' new superhero team headed by the militant Colonel Stars and Stripes, unrecognisably played by Jim Carrey, and his masked pooch (no joke!).

Matthew Vaughn is back as the producer but 'Never Back Down' director Jeff Wadlow has stepped in as director and screenwriter giving it some fresh new life three years later. In the run-up to the  July 9th UK release and August 16th US release, there will be much speculation as to whether it wiill live up to the epic original, but judging by the trailer, it looks set to be even more dangerous, high-energy, not to mention even more expletive ridden.

Dave Lizewski is Kick-Ass, a real superhero who's been trying to live a normal life as a high school student alongside his younger counterpart Mindy, also known as Hit-Girl. However, his escapades fighting and killing crime boss Frank D'Amico has inspired a generation of masked crime-fighters to band together as an alliance led by Colonel Stars and Stripes to protect the streets of New York. Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl decide to don their costumes again when news of Red Mist, D'Amico's son who is now known as supervillain The Motherf*****, assembling an army to destroy them reaches them. However, the hero duo have other things to worry about when the NYPD decide they've had enough of cleaning up the mess of the city's masked protectors and so vow to arrest every costume donning person on the streets. Hit-Girl is apprehended and forced to give up her moniker, and so Kick-Ass must join superhero league Justice Forever in order to combat the imminent uprising of the new formidable evil.

Based on the comic books of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita. Jr and following on from 2010's 'Kick-Ass' directed by Matthew Vaughn ('X-Men: First Class', 'Stardust', 'Layer Cake'), 'Kick-Ass 2' is the thrilling sequel seeing Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl older and tougher than ever before. It has been directed and written this time by Jeff Wadlow ('Never Back Down', 'Cry_Wolf') and is set for release on August 16th 2013.

Kick Ass 2 was produced by Matthew Vaughn, Tarquin Pack, Adam Bohling, David Reid and Brad Pitt

Prey 2152117 Film Reviews It's lions, lions, and lions (oh my!) in this overwrought and only vaguely insulting woman-and-children-in-jeopardy thriller. Here's the gist: Engineer dad (Peter Weller) and his new, impossibly young wife (Bridget Moynahan) split for Africa with dad's kids in tow. He's there for work, so during the day, kids and stepmom decide to go on safari. Well, they quickly decide to go off the "main road," and junior decides he needs to go potty. He hasn't even unzipped before he's promptly consumed by a den of lions.

Kids and mom end up holed up in the car as the lions prowl outside, still hungry. To make matters worse, grating and bratty teenage sis (Carly Schroeder) hates the stepmom and blames her for everything when she isn't listening to her iPod. Gosh! Why can't the lions just leave her alone!? Finally they spot the keys outside, and mom makes a run for it. Five seconds later she's wrecked the car completely. Eventually natives wander by and help them. Meanwhile dad has hired a ranger to search for the missing car.

Essentially what we have here is Cujo but with hungry lions instead of a dog. That's fine, but do these characters have to be so outright stupid? Lions are scary enough when you aren't contributing to them eating your family and friends.

Moynahan carries the picture when the lions aren't on camera, but it's some amazing animal training (I assume) that makes the film come alive to the extent it does. The lions are deeply impressive, and it's clear from the budget of the film they are not CGI.

Still, I had a major nagging issue with the film, which I guess I'll mark with a big spoiler warning: In Prey, the entire family survives while everyone who comes along to help them is eaten by the lions. Here we have a bunch of suburban nitwits surviving while four experts on living in the wilderness are eaten in rather short order. Hollywood can reach all the way around the world, it seems. 1st February 2007

I hope Miss Moretz returns as Hit Girl. She's what made the movie so good to begin with. Anyone else as Hit Girl would probably not draw me to the theater, even though I am a fan of Graphic Novel-ish type movies. It's either Chloe, or No Me.
