Kazaa To Settle Lawsuits For $115 Million

The operator of the file-sharing website Kazaa has agreed to pay the movie and music industries $115 million to settle a lawsuit accusing Kazaa of piracy. However, several analysts suggested that the victory by the entertainment groups would be pyrrhic at best. "I don't think anything has been accomplished here," Michael Goodman, a senior analyst with the Yankee Group in Boston, told today's (Friday) Los Angeles Times.. "From a legal perspective, this is a yawner. They [the entertainment groups] won the battle, but the battlefront moved on about three years ago. That's the problem with court systems. Technology and markets move way faster than courts can typically keep up with them. By the time you win that battle, who cares?"
