Kay Rants About 'Nonsense' Modern Music
The singer admits he no longer enjoys listening to the radio because he can't tell the difference between one pop band and the next.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "There's just too much manufactured nonsense for me these days - lads in boybands who are getting a wage from the label.
"I consider myself very lucky indeed to have had the career I have. I listen to the radio now and you can't tell artists apart."
And Kay is convinced modern acts have no chance of longevity - because executives don't bother to develop them.
He adds, "It's difficult for all these kids to make any money because they get handed covers. They are under strict instructions - no seeing any birds (women), get to bed, no drinking. That's not what it's all about, now is it? The Stones, The Who, AC DC, Motley Crue - it was a riot all the time. But then megabucks were going around.
"The days of labels having patience and spending time developing acts seem to have gone. Just look at Elton John and U2 - they didn't get off to a great start but look at the careers they went on to have."
