Kay Blasts Welfare Cheats

JAMIROQUAI singer JAY KAY has blasted welfare cheats in his native U.K. - insisting they should be forced to "do something for their money".
The Space Cowboy hitmaker is furious he has to pay a high tax rate while thousands of unemployed claim benefits even though they are capable of working.
And he's adamant Britain is no longer a "civilised" country, because ruling politicians are failing to deal with the problem of welfare fraud.
He tells the Sunday Mirror magazine, "I'd make people who sit on their a**es and take benefits but can work get out and do something for their money. Whether it's painting a wall, planting trees, painting over graffiti, they should do something for their local community.
"If people think I'm a w**ker for saying that, remember I'm paying 50 per cent tax, I'm paying for people to do nothing while vulnerable and mentally ill people sleep on the street and poor pensioners who fought for our freedom don't have enough money to keep warm. This isn't a civilised country."

Jay Kay Bemoans Lack Of Rock 'N' Roll Partying 2545514 News

Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay thinks nobody parties like a rock star anymore.

The singer thinks that the golden age of rock 'n' roll behaviour has passed as pop music has become increasingly commoditised and marketed, and because social media and camera phones mean stars can be caught out by any member of the public.

Jay told Q Magazine: "These kids who get signed now, there's no rock 'n' roll about it. Take a wage, get on tour and keep quiet.

"There were times when I'd meet people in a club and say, 'come back to the house, get drunk, whatever,' which was cool. That was in the days when people had a bit of decorum and respect. Now everyone's taking pictures with camera phones all the time."

'Virtual Insanity' singer Jay admitted he's jealous of how easy it was for notorious party band the Rolling Stones in their 60s and 70s heyday, because they could keep their antics relatively private.

He added: "You can never trust people to - well, it's difficult isn't it? There's always somebody. Those b*****ds in the Stones had a right laugh. No iPhones, no YouTube, they could wreck it up. Those days are gone."

Despite his comments, Jay admits he has himself also curbed his partying ways and has quit taking cocaine, but he still drinks adding: "At least I've lived a little bit."

Jamiroquai - Rock Dust Light Star 2049042 Reviews

Since forming in 1992 this outfit fronted by Jay Kay have amassed record sales of over 25 million, as well as landing international recognition in the form of 1997's Grammy Award. Having completed their contract with Sony they've now landed on the Mercury roster to present album number eight, due for release November 1 2010.

For a band known for their funk sound the decision to open this record with 'Rock Dust Light Star' is rather strange due to it being somewhat subdued. Kay's smooth vocals are very much intact but a weak hook and unnecessary duration don't make for the best of starts. Thankfully 'White Knuckle Ride' is more familiar, mastering a mood both suited for grooving and chill out sessions, but it is far from being the crossover hit that is usually found on a Jamiroquai album. Unfortunately this moment fails to materialise, instead come the lightweight 'Two Completely Different Things' and the breezy 'Lifeline'. Rather surprisingly the highlight to be found is 'Blue Skies', which is built upon a beautiful melody to create an emotive ballad that avoids becoming overblown. Positioned at the central point of the release, it stands up to be counted unlike the rest of this offering.

J.K.s energy, the groups stunning musicianship and backing singers that could make it on their own would have left you in no doubt of this. "Space Cowboy", "Canned Heat", "Love Foolosophy" and the phenomenal "Alright" as with "Cosmic Girl" literally lifted the roof of the venue.

Once again I am not the biggest fan of the latest single, which amazingly they didn't perform. But they performed two amazing tracks from the album "Seven Days in Sunny June" and "Star Child" which have got me gagging for the album. J.K. is a total entertainer, with his cheeky chappy style, the place was full to bursting point and I don't think there are many artists that could get such a lavish party from Sony for an album launch.
