Katy Perry - Katy Perry Stays On Top In U.s. Pop Chart As Lil Wayne Rockets Into The Top Five

Katy Perry has stopped Lil Wayne from scoring a number one debut on the U.S. pop charts.
The singer's Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) has scored a second week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 as the rapper rockets into the top three with She Will, his new tune featuring Drake.
The song's success marks Lil Wayne's highest new entry ever on the chart. It's his fifth top 10.
Lmfao's former chart-topper Party Rock Anthem stays put at two on the new countdown. Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera's Moves Like Jagger and Nicki Minaj's Super Bass round out the new top five.

Katy Perry Slapped With Plagiarism Charges And Possibly A Witch Hunt 4271120 News

Katy Perry is no stranger to controversy, but she has managed to stay away from legal copyright disputes so far. Well, not anymore. The singer is being sued over her catchy single Dark Horse, which the plaintiffs claim replicated their 2006 song Joyful Noise. But that’s not even the strangest part of this story.

Katy Perry
Katy Perry used a smoke machine and mechanical horse in one performance.

The four musicians suing Perry are a Christian rock band and claim that the pop songstress not only used their original tune, but that she also sullied it with “witchcraft, paganism, black magic and Illuminati imagery”. This case isn’t Perry’s first brush with plagiarism accusations – last year, she came under fire for the apparent similarities between her single Roar and Sara Bareilles’ Brave.

Intrestingly, Perry has been accused of practicing occult hobbies before. When she debuted the song at the 2014 Grammy Awards, plenty of keyboard warriors rode in to fight against the death of decency and accused Perry of working for the forces of evil. Pretty standard stuff. This might be the first time where that accusation has been used in a copyright dispute, however. The complaint was filed on July 1, in St. Louis according to Billboard. Rappers Marcus Gray, Emanuel Lambert, Lecrae Moore and producer Chike Ojukwu are seeking damages from Katy Perry, Juicy J, Lukasz Gottwald, Sarah Theresa Hudson, Max Martin, Henry Russell Walter and Capitol Records.

Katy Perry Tops RIAA's Digital Artist List - Who's Behind Her? 4261613 News

It only took three records for Katy Perry to cement herself as one of the biggest names in pop music history. Of course, one could argue that the superstar held that title well before the release of the third album, and they’d have the records to back it up: from May 2010 to September 2011, Perry spent 69 consecutive weeks in the top ten of Billboard’s Hot 100. She also became the first female artist to produce five number one songs from the same album with her sophomore record, Teenage Dream. Pretty impressive, right? Even though she has been earning accolades with every move she makes, perhaps the biggest is something she just achieved: Katy is officially the all-time top digital artist, according to the RIAA.

Katy Perry Jingle Bell BallKaty Perry has moved 72 million in digital sales

"Katy Perry is a force to be reckoned with in music,” Cary Sherman, RIAA Chairman & CEO, said about the feat. "She embodies all that makes a true global superstar: the musical talent, the extraordinary drive and genuine charisma, and an intrinsic connection with her fans." During her trip to the top, she has earned 18 Gold, 16 Platinum, and 56 multi-platinum digital single awards over the span of her career. For albums, her debut record, One for the Boys, has been certified Platinum, while Teenage Dream is double-Platinum. Her most recently released record, Prism, currently stands at sales exceeding 1.1 million. Digital sales altogether land Perry at 72 million, which easily puts her at number one in front of the competition.

That competition? Rihanna and Taylor Swift. Rihanna, who is behind Perry at number two, has 20 million less sold than Perry does. Swift is right behind Rihanna at three, with sales standing at 51 million. Although none of these three are surprising, it’s interesting to look at the album patterns of each artist and see how their spot on the list may be related to it. Rihanna’s first record came in 2005, and she’s released a total of seven -- four more than Perry. Swift, on the other hand, has only released four, and all but one has sold at least two million.

Taylor Swift GalaTaylor Swift is right behind Rihanna for third on the most digital sold list

What exactly does this mean? You’d figure more albums for a successful artist would equal into more digital content sold, but it seems like, in Rihanna’s case, her albums don’t have the lasting value to keep up with new trends and stay relevant in the mainstream to keep selling. There was a three year gap between Teenage Dream and Prism, but Perry kept the iron hot by re-releasing the album with new songs that both got huge. Now, with Swift, her albums all have multiple singles that hold their own, and it’s the reason why she’ll surpass Rihanna on the digital artist list in no time. When both Perry and Swift get to their ninth album, it’ll be tough for anyone to come close to their sales.

An Alliance Is Forged As Katy Perry Offers To Pen Hillary Clinton's 2016 Campaign Song 4258753 News

Hillary Clinton might be hitting the 2016 campaign trail soon and she’s got an unlikely ally along the way. Katy Perry, songstress, label boss and cupcake enthusiast has offered to pen a campaign song for Hillary, should she decide to run.

Katy Perry
She may have stumbled along the way, but these days Perry is all about female empowerment.

"I told hillaryclinton that I would write her a "theme" song if she needs it," the singer said Friday on Instagram, a day after she met Clinton at a book signing for Clinton's new memoir "Hard Choices."

Clinton replied via Twitter, letting her followers know that she already had a song in mind.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" align=center lang="en"><p>.<a href="https://twitter.com/katyperry" rel="nofollow" >@katyperry</a> Well that’s not a Hard Choice. You already did! <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

With lyrics like “I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar” it sounds like an apt choice of anthem. Now we just have to wait for the campaign announcement.

Perry, who is an outspoken democrat and a self-professed feminist, has supported Barack Obama in previous elections, so putting her influence behind Hilary Clinton in 2016 seems like a natural transition.

Plus, after her “strong woman” comments and the founding of her own label, Metamorphosis, Perry can identify with Clinton, who is an advocate for equality, women’s rights and empowerment.

Katy Perry Launches Metamorphosis Music - What It Means For Her First Signee, Ferras 4248440 News

Forget “Orange.” Having your own record label is the new black, at least if you’re already an established artist. First it was Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, whose label 222 Records recently signed a partnership deal with Interscope Records the other week, and a few days ago it was announced that Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz would be relaunching his Decaydance Records under a new name. Somebody else is joining the club now, and it’s pop superstar Katy Perry. Perry’s new label distributed by Capitol Records, called Metamorphosis Music, already has its first signee as well, as it was announced on June 17 that she had signed pop singer Ferras.

Katy Perry Red CarpetKaty Perry launches Metamorphosis Music and signs her first artist, Ferras

“I am so ECSTATIC to finally announce my NEW label Metamorphosis Music & my first signing, the incredibly talented & soulful FERRAS!,” Perry tweeted about the signing. Ferras also released his new single this week, which of course features Katy Perry herself, called ‘Legends Never Die.’ It’s off his new EP which also was released this past Tuesday, too. Who is Ferras anyway? Though he may be unknown, he released a record back in 2008 that was produced by popular production duo The Matrix. Additionally, you may have heard his stuff before: he co-wrote the track ‘Aftermath’ for Adam Lambert, and one of his songs was even the exit song on the seventh season of 'American Idol.'

But does being on Perry’s label mean that he’s more likely for success? Ferras’ new self-titled EP is five tracks of atmospheric, dreamy pop, and with summer bangers coming out left and right recently, it’s a nice break in the action to hear something of this caliber. With that said: the music is amazing, and he probably would be in pretty good shape whether he’s under Katy Perry’s wing or not. But having her featured on one of his tracks doesn’t hurt either, especially since the track itself sounds awesome. Whatever the future has in store for Ferras, there’s one thing that’s already guaranteed: a tour with Katy as support. In Adam Levine’s case, the artist Rozzi Crane, who’s signed to his 222 Records, supported Maroon 5 on their tour with Kelly Clarkson last year. It only makes sense that Katy is taking Ferras on board to show off her new signing.

So, now that Ferras is in the books, what’s next for Metamorphosis Music? Well, forgive me for being stuck in 2002, but the fact that Hilary Duff has an album called Metamorphosis just makes me think of her whenever I hear the label name, so obviously she’s a perfect fit. Duff IS releasing an album eventually, so what better place than on Katy’s label? Somebody else that could fit the bill is indie-pop singer Betty Who, a girl that’s been tearing it up with her track ‘You’re In Love’ and recent EP, Slow Dancing.

The last is popular singer/songwriter Matthew Koma, who’s best known for his writing credit on Zedd’s smash hit, ‘Clarity.’ Koma’s got some hits too: last year, he released ‘One Night,’ one of the catchiest songs you’ll ever hear. It’s off his upcoming album Arcadia, and while that doesn’t have a release date yet, it’d work nice on Metamorphosis Music. Phew. Talking about labels is kind of exhausting, but it’s certainly fun. I bet Katy feels the same way. Metamorphosis Music is just getting started, but it seems like it can only go up from here.

Robert Pattinson Flirts With Katy Perry Whilst Living With Kristen Stewart? 4245555 News

Robert Pattinson may be "homeless" but he still has the time to admire his close "friend" Katy Perry. However, as he is rumoured to be temporarily living with his ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart, how likely is an R-Patz-KP union?

Robert PattinsonRobet Pattinson is currently "homeless".

Perry went to great lengths last year to emphasise that she was simply supporting Pattinson through his split from Stewart. In an interview with Elle, she claimed the two were simply "friends". But, nearly a year on, things between the two could have changed significantly and recent reports would certainly suggest so.

The 28-year-old actor and Perry recently attended an after party for Pattinson's soon-to-be-released film The Rover in New York last week. Perry, according to reports in the NY Daily Post, sneaked into the W hotel bar through the kitchen and spent some quality time "flirting" with Pattinson. The two have been romantically linked since Pattinson's split from Kristen Stewart. A source, speaking to the newspaper, said the pair was "heavily flirting. At one point, Robert sauntered to the bar with a pal and was heard saying, 'She's so hot."

Pattinson recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and discussed his current housing predicament. He explained how he had found "a little home in LA" but had soon been forced to leave by his own parents. On the show, Pattinson said "My parents borrowed my house, which I was borrowing off someone else, and kicked me out of it when I came back from Toronto. So that's the end of that and I'm now homeless again."

However, reports suggest Pattinson may be living with his ex-girlfriend Stewart. An insider source, as the Mirror reports, said "Rob doesn't have his own place in LA. When he's in town, he sometimes stays at the Chateau Marmont and very often at Kristen's when she's out of town. This gives him the chance to hang out with Bear and Bernie." Bear and Bernie, in case you were wondering, are the former couple's dogs who reside with Stewart.

The source added "Rob and Kristen aren't romantic or anything, but they are still really close and would do anything for each other." So, should the rumours which surround Perry and Pattinson prove founded, there may be nothing standing in the way of their alleged relationship.
