Katie Price has bought her six-year-old son a motorbike.

The former glamour model presented Junior - her eldest child with ex-husband Peter Andre - with the specially-adapted motorised vehicle, which has a top speed of 17 miles per hour, for his birthday on Monday (13.06.11).

She tweeted: "My gorgeous boy turns 6 today - he is going to LOVE his birthday presents and cake... and 1 big present he won't expect! (sic)"

Katie reportedly opted for the £1,200 present after enquiring about buying Junior a quad bike, only to be told they were unsafe for children.

Despite concerns from road safety campaigners, sources close to Katie - who also has nine-year-old son Harvey with former boyfriend Dwight Yorke and three-year-old daughter Princess Tiaamii with Peter - insist the vehicle is suitable for the youngster and he will always be supervised when playing with his new toy.

The source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It's a brilliant bit of kit, and totally adapted and designed for kids. Katie bought him a Brand New Helmet as well and she, or an adult, will be with him at all times whenever Junior rides around the garden. He won't be going on public roads."

However, road safety group Brake warned the present was "totally inappropriate" and irresponsible.

Their spokesperson, Julie Townsend, said: "Junior motorbikes are powerful machines that can and do seriously injure those who use them.

"For this reason they are totally inappropriate for children and we urge all parents to acknowledge this.

"Giving one as a gift is hardly responsible."
