Katie Couric's new daytime TV show for ABC has been inspired by Oprah Winfrey and will launch next year.
Katie Couric's new TV show has been inspired by Oprah Winfrey.
The 54-year-old journalist - resigned from her news anchor role at CBS 'Evening News' in April - has signed a new deal with ABC for a daytime show and says it will have a similar feel to Oprah's programme.
Katie - who left NBC's 'Today' in 2006 to move to CBS - told talk host Jay Leno: "It'll be sort of a little bit of what Oprah did. Obviously, no one can ever fill Oprah's shoes, but some of the things that she did on her show, some of the things we used to do on the 'Today' show."
Katie says she can't wait to get to work on her hew show - which will launch next year - as she's looking forward to the new challenge.
She added: "I'm really looking forward to it because, creatively, it's such an exciting challenge for me and I think I'm better at interacting and talking to people and synthesizing complicated subjects - I hope - and you know doing interviews that require some empathy. On the 'Evening News', it was hard to do that in that very structured format."
