Kate Winslet Arrives At Titanic 3d Premiere, Sans Leonardo
Cameron also revealed that he considered Titanic to be a "timeless classic" and added "The big thrill of it isn't just the 3D. it's bringing it back to the big screen, where it has a lot more emotional impact." The famed director also added that he would consider creating 3D versions of some of his other movies, including Terminator, if it were considered to be financially viable. "The 3D kicks the whole experience up to another level," he commented. The film took two years to make and Leonardo Dicaprio, who wasn't present at the premiere, and Kate Winslet played the lead roles of Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, respectively.
Titanic won 11 Academy Awards, including the Oscar for Best Picture in 1998. Cameron also took home the award for Best Director and Kate Winslet was nominated for Best Actress but lost out to Helen Hunt for her performance in As Good As It Gets. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the year that the ship set sail, on a voyage from Southampton to New York. Tragically, the ship sank less than three hours later, killing 1,517 of the crew and passengers.
