Kate Spade - Kate Spade Hit With $1 Million Copyright Lawsuit
Fashion designer Kate Spade has been hit with a $1 million (£625,000) copyright lawsuit from the estate of late artist Vera Neumann.
Executives in charge of Neumann's legacy launched a legal battle against the 59 year old, alleging a Kate Spade line of floral-print dresses and cellphone cases were "obviously copied" from the artist's 1979 classic Poppy Field.
According to the New York Post, the papers were filed at a Manhattan federal court on Tuesday (03Jul12) with prosecutors claiming Spade even recently named Neumann's silk-screened scarves as inspiration for a number of her products.
Neumann, who had a slew of famous fans including Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly, died in June, 1993.
