Kate Middleton and Prince William are set to break down the strongest standing gender-barrier to still be in existence, as HRH Queen Elizabeth has announced her intention to amend the archaic laws of Royal succession. The amendment will put an end to the system that sees the eldest son automatically be granted accession to the throne, even if he has an older sister. This means that when the pair do have children, their first-born will automatically become next in line for the throne, regardless of whether they are male or female.
As reported in the Daily Mail, the Queen spoke at the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday (May 9th) confirming that the Government is to introduce a Bill to scrap this inequitable rule, which has been in place under legislation since 1688 (of course the rule of male accession to the throne had been commonplace long before 1688). The Queen first announced this major shake-up back in October, however the announcement in Parliament all back makes it official.
Kate and Wills were last spotted in public at the recent Olympic Gala concert in London, where she shimmered in a turquoise dress that flaunted her amazing figure and natural beauty.
