Kate Bosworth believes she is fighting a "losing battle" trying to break free of her 'girl next door' image.
The 28-year-old star is desperate to not be stereotyped as an actress but insists she doesn't let other people's perceptions or her stop her from accepting certain film roles.
She said: "I feel like I'm always battling people's perceptions of me, but it's a losing battle. I pick projects because they're interesting, not to prove anyone wrong."
Kate can soon be soon in psychological thriller 'Straw Dogs' - a remake of the 1971 movie of the same name, which starred Dustin Hoffman and caused controversy with its infamous rape scene and excessive violence - in which she stars with her ex-boyfriend Alexander Skarsgard.
The actress - who previously dated Orlando Bloom - has nothing but praise for her former lover's on-screen talents and claims he has qualities that would have fitted in during the golden age of Hollywood.
In an interview for the 15th Anniversary Issue of BlackBook magazine, she said: "[He] is so kind and so dedicated and so incredibly professional. He's got this rare, wonderful control and stillness that you notice in a lot of old movie stars. He looks you in the eye. I feel incredibly lucky to have had that type of man on this movie."
Alexander also features in the magazine and was equally full of praise for Kate, revealing they started dating after developing a close relationship of the set of 'Straw Dogs'.
The 35-year-old Swedish actor - whose two-year romance with Kate ended earlier this summer - said: "Kate is such a great actress, and she's so much more than a good-looking Hollywood starlet. We were just really good friends at the time. But we shared a really special experience on that film."
