Karl Lagerfeld Teams With Make-up Brand Shu Uemura

Karl Lagerfeld and Shu Uemura have teamed up together for a new collection of make-up.

The Fashion designer has long used the Japanese brand's products in his sketches and illustrations, which he has now developed into a new collection.

He told WWD: ''I wanted to invent my personal vision of a Japanese Manga.''

He also said the products can be mixed and matched ''like a little collection. I use their eye shadow colours for my sketching. It's better than pastel; nobody has colors like that.''

Karl shot the advertising campaign for the brand, which he wanted to make sure he included ''Eastern, perfect, mysterious, modern beauty.''

Karl created two different eye-and-cheek palettes - based on smoky green and on smoky purple. The brand also mixed a special red hue just for the designer.

Ludovic Engrand, Shu Uemura's expert make-up artist, said: ''Red is a symbolic colour for Karl Lagerfeld, because he always dreamed of a red eye shadow to make his sketches. So they created it in this palette for him.''

The line also includes a dark purple gel eyeliner and two pairs of false eyelashes. One is made of red-and-black fabric, a first for the Japanese brand.

The line also includes four lip shades: Mon Shu Red, Luxe Burgundy, Celebrity Beige and Parisienne Pink.

Nail colours come in Karl Black, Shu Shu Red and Royal Beige, and each is sold with a strip of nail stickers.

The collection will be carried in 18 countries while supplies last or until February 2013.
