Manhattan's borough President Scott Stringer announced June 1 as " Justin Bieber Appreciation Day" on Tuesday, as the teen star dropped by a local electronics store to sign copies of his newly released album 'Believe' for thousands of his fans, reports Amny.com.
Insisting he was "totally" a Bieber fan, Stringer told the gathered crowds, "This proclamation is on behalf of the 1.6 million people who live in Manhattan, and it's very exciting to have Bieber here with us.I don't give proclamation unless I believe". Thousands of diehard fans - some accompanied by their parents - lined the streets in Manhattan for a chance to meet the 18-year-old Canadian superstar, with some clearly overawed by the situation. Taylor Morgan, 11, said, "He's so gorgeous, I am so in love with him, I can't even believe I met him", adding, "I've been waiting to meet him for three years. This is the best day of my life". An older fan, 18-year-old Kathleen Lopez, said meeting Bieber was "the best 20 seconds" of her life, adding, "I love him! I've been supporting him since 2009, so it was about time for me to try and meet him.I don't think anything could top this".
Bieber played the city's historic Apollo Theater on Monday evening (June 18, 2012), though his performance was interrupted by a power outage. He returns to New York for a huge show at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center on November 12, before playing Madison Square Garden two weeks later.
