Julie Delpy - Julie Delpy 'Not Quitting' Acting
French star Julie Delpy has assured fans she is not turning her back on acting to concentrate on her career as a writer and director - she has just decided to choose her projects more carefully.
The Before Sunset actress has been promoting her new movie 2 Days in New York, her fourth as a filmmaker, and she was previously quoted as admitting her days in front of the camera are numbered.
She said, "I think I'm done with acting. Before, I just acted in movies with people I knew. Now I don't want to pursue acting. I will pursue writing and directing."
However, Delpy insists her comments were taken out of context and insists she is simply being more selective with the roles she auditions for.
She tells the New York Post, "I'm not quitting, I just don't want to spend my life running to auditions and trying to get a job.
"When you're an actress, they (talent agents) send you out for anything to keep you busy and so you don't feel left out. The number of times they've sent me to play a sexy Latina, I can't even tell you. The casting director would look at me, I would look at him, and it was like, 'What am I doing here?' He's like, 'I don't know.'"
However, Delpy admits she has been inundated with job offers ever since she decided to step behind the camera - and she can't understand why.
She says, "I've never been offered so much as an actress since I started directing. I'm 42, and it (a screen career) is pretty much over by then. I've had no plastic surgery, so why do they want me in a movie?"
