Julie Andrews Says She Was 'In Awe' Of Christopher Plummer

JULIE ANDREWS, 75-year-old English actress, says she was 'in awe' of her co-star CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER, before the two appeared in the hit 1965 musical 'The Sound of Music'. Andrews was joined by the cast of movie, which included Plummer, as guests on the OPRAH WINFREY show yesterday (28th October 2010).
Winfrey asked the actress what it was like to star alongside the experienced Plummer, to which she replied, "Well, I was in awe of this gentleman. I mean, a very, very famous dramatic actor, and here I was just a musical songstress, and honest to god, that's the way I felt". Plummer then repaid the compliment by saying, "I'd fallen in love with her in My Fair Lady on Broadway, so I'd had a crush for forever". The actors who played the 'Von Trapp' children in the movie also chatted with Oprah, and the event celebrated the film's 45th year anniversary.
Andrews, who went on to win the ACADEMY AWARD for 'Best Actress, discussed her initial reservations at starring in 'The Sound of Music', suggesting that the film could have become overly sentimental, she said, "If we weren't careful, the film could've been dreadfully saccharine".
