Julie Andrews - Julie Andrews Husband Blake Edwards Passes Away
JULIE ANDREWS' husband, the acclaimed film-maker BLAKE EDWARDS, has passed away at the age of 88 after complications from pneumonia. The director, who was responsible for the cult classic 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', had been confined to a wheelchair for the last couple of years according to his publicist, and he died in Santa Monica yesterday (15th December 2010) surrounded by his wife and close family.
Andrews married Edwards in 1969 and went on to star in one of his biggest movies, the musical-comedy 'Victor/Victoria' about transvestism and sexual identity. The film was universally acclaimed and was nominated for seven ACADEMY AWARDS, winning the OSCAR for 'Original Music Score'. The couple adopted two children, and Edwards also leaves behind two children from his marriage to PATRICIA WALKER.
Before news of the death was announced, the GLEE star CHRIS COLFER had publically stated his desire to see Andrews join the cast of the hit musical-comedy show. The 20-year-old had told E! Online, "I'm pretty sure I've been obnoxious enough now that she knows that I want her. I think they just have to write it for her", and added that he wanted to see Andrews play his on-screen grandmother.
