Joss Whedon To Return To Television With S.h.i.e.l.d Project
However, Whedon might also be returning to TV screens a little earlier than expected - again in a Marvel Comics theme - after Deadline reported that he'd been asked to take the reins of new show S.H.I.E.L.D. Fans of the Marvel Comics will be well aware that S.H.I.E.L.D stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division, and that they act as Marvel's peacekeeping organisation. In this year's The Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D recruited Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor to stop the latter's adoptive brother Loki from subjugating earth.
Deadline are claiming that S.H.I.E.L.D. will be getting going very quickly indeed. Though principally written by Whedon, there will be some familiar collaborators working with him, including his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Whedon will also direct the pilot, schedule permitting. Production on the pilot will apparently start immediately. The Whedon brothers and Tancharoen executive produce with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb. It's the first live-action Marvel TV project to get a green light. Whedon has of course had success on TV before, as part of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer team most notably.
