Joseph Gordon-levitt - Joseph Gordon-levitt To Play Cop In Dark Knight Rises
Director Christopher Nolan has revealed the roles Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard are playing in the new Batman movie 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard's roles in the new Batman film have been announced.
The actor is to play a Gotham City cop called John Blake who is handed a special assignment by the newly promoted Commissioner Gordon - played by Gary Oldman for the third time - while the actress is to portray Wayne Enterprises board member Miranda Tate in the highly-anticipated 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
Marion's character tries to encourage Bruce Wayne to focus on the philanthropic and charity work started by his father Thomas Wayne in the movie.
Both stars appeared in director Christopher Nolan's acclaimed film 'Inception' and the filmmaker is delighted to have them on board for the superhero sequel.
In a statement, Nolan said: "When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience.
"I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again."
It had long been rumoured that Joseph would be playing The Holiday Killer - Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia boss Carmine Falcone and a psychopathic serial killer who murders criminals linked to his father.
Marion had been linked to the role of Talia Al-Ghul - the daughter of Ra's Al-Ghul, the villain the Caped Crusader battled in the first film 'Batman Begins' - and rumours are rife her announced role could still lead to her being Talia.
Other confirmed roles include Christian Bale returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne for a third time, Sir Michael Caine reprising his part as his loyal butler Alfred, Anne Hathaway as Selena Kyle/Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane.
Shooting is scheduled to start later this year and 'The Dark Knight Rises' is due for release on July 20, 2012.
