Jon Hamm And Mad Men Dominate Critics Choice Awards

Jon Hamm, the American actor best known for playing the suave advertising executive Don Draper in 'Mad Men', scooped the award for 'Best Actor in a Drama' at Monday's Critics Choice Television Awards. Hamm's co-stars were also honoured, with Christina Hendricks walking away with 'Best Supporting Actress', reports the UK's Daily Mail.

'Mad Men', which follows Madison Avenue ad agency 'Sterling Cooper', also won the award for 'Best Drama', accepted by the show's creator Matthew Weiner. It is the first time the show's actors have been honoured for their performances and the show's success at the ceremony bodes well for potential Emmy nominations. The ceremony, hosted by British presenter Cat Deeley, is traditionally regarded as a barometer for the Emmy Awards, much in the same way the Golden Globes are said to influence The Oscars. Weiner revealed that work is under way on the highly anticipated fifth season of 'Mad Men', confirming that Hamm will make his directorial debut in the very first episode. During a recent interview with Usa Today, the actor said he was "excited, anxious and terrified" about getting behind the camera for the episode which will air in March 2012.

Elsewhere on the night, ABC's 'Modern Family' took home the 'Best Comedy' award after being nominated in six categories. American Idol won 'Best Reality Show', while Jim Parsons scooped the 'Best Actor in a Comedy' gong for his role in 'The Big Bang Theory'.
