Jolie Back In Africa

by | 26 February 2007

Angelina Jolie has arrived in Africa to monitor the crisis in Darfur on behalf of the United Nations.

It is the third time that the Oscar-nominated actress, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UN, has visited the continent.

Her political adviser, Trevor Neilson, told People magazine that she will not be able to go into Darfur itself due to the unstable conditions there.

Jolie, who has an adopted daughter from Africa, arrived in N'Djamena, Chad yesterday and will visit refugee camps about two miles from the border with Sudan.

Her trip will last for a few days and will enable her to gauge the current conditions, which are thought to have deteriorated since her last visit in 2004.

It emerged at the weekend that Jolie's humanitarian efforts have earned her a nomination to join one of America's most venerable thinktanks.

If accepted to the Council on Foreign Relations she would join a prestigious list of members including current and former US secretary of states Condoleezza Rice and Henry Kissinger.

Mr Neilson told People: "Few people are more committed than she is to these issues."
