Johnny Depp Re-teams With Tim Burton
The brotherly relationship between actor Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton seems to get stronger with each passing year. The actor-director duo have now worked together on nine films together, with each one seeming to inspire some of the other's best work. Working together, it seems as though they can sell almost anything based solely on their collaboration. They have provided family hits together, working on the recent Alice In Wonderland update and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as much darker projects such as Sleepy Hollow and the Broadway adaptation Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Their next project together is another adaptation, this time it is a remake of the 1970s vampire-themed soap opera Dark Shadows. In the film, Depp will take on the role of Barnabas Collins, an 18ths century dandy whose family made their fortune in the fishing trade. However, after getting on the wrong side of a witch (played by Eva Green), he finds himself turned into a vampire, later being buried alive (undead) for 200, waking in the year 1976.
The two co-workers and good friends were both long time admirers of the show, with Depp introducing the idea of a movie adaptation to Burton some years ago when they were working together. According to Burton, Depp had always wanted to play the part of Barnabas, "even before he became an actor."
