John Wayne Memorabilia To Go Under The Hammer

John Wayne's eye patch that he famously wore in the 1969 film 'True Grit', is set to be sold at auction, reports Bbc News. John Wayne's cowboy boots, hats, driving license, passport and various movie scripts will also go under the hammer in Los Angeles later this year.

Wayne won the 'Best Actor' Oscar for his role as 'Marshal Rooster Cogburn' in the original 'True Grit', and the Coen Brothers made an adaptation of the movie in 2010. John Wayne's son Ethan Wayne said, "All these are items that could either stay stored somewhere, or be let loose to the people. We thought, what's the best use of these items? My family and I have a few personal items and a lot of memories, so turning the rest over to his fans is the right thing to do". 'Heritage Auctions' said the sale would take place in October 2011 and items are expected to fetch anything between $100 and $50,000. Wayne starred in over 170 movies, mainly Westerns. He died of stomach cancer in 1979 at the age of 72.

All proceeds from the auction will go to John Wayne ENTERPRISES, which supports and funds the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. Prior to the auction, a public exhibition of the memorabilia will be held in Dallas, Texas, and New York City.
