John Mayer - John Mayer Tops Billboard Album Charts, Fully Expects To Stay There

John Mayer has topped the US Billboard Album Charts this week, with his fifth album 'Born And Raised' and managed to beat off alumni from 'American Idol' and hair rocker Slash in the process. The move shows that his fans haven't completely deserted him after the soft rocker made some rather choices comments back in 2010 about his high profile lifestyle and relationships, causing much of his fan base to feel alienated.
Mayer then went off into the Montana countryside and went for a stripped back, rootsier sound on 'Born And Raised;' it's something that's evidently paid off and the artist went to the top of the charts after selling 219,000 copies of the LP in its first week of sales. The album marks his third US number one, following 2003's 'Heavier Things' and 2009's 'Battle Studies.' The news will also come as some consolation for the star, currently side-lined from singing due to a type of tumour on his throat known as granuloma, according to Reuters.
The good news is set to continue as well, with Billboard predicting that a lack of high-profile releases this coming week should see Mayer hold onto the top spot for a second week. The chart company expects his main competition to come from Regina Spektor's 'What We Saw From the Cheap Seats' or Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' 'Here.' They're expected to only sell 30,000 to 35,000 copies however.
