John Mayer - John Mayer Sings For First Time In Five Months
John Mayer returned to the stage as a singer on Wednesday (16Jan13) for the first time since undergoing throat surgery in August (12).
The Daughters hitmaker was ordered to preserve his voice for six months after undergoing a second operation to remove a granuloma from his vocal cords.
He has continued to perform as a musician in recent months, playing guitar with R&B star Frank Ocean on U.S. Tv show Saturday Night Live in September (12) and joining the Rolling Stones on stage in New Jersey in December (12), but Mayer stepped back into the spotlight as a vocalist on Wednesday to sing at a benefit gig in Montana for the firefighters who helped to save his home from a widespread blaze in Pine Creek last year (12).
He tested out his vocals by performing Speak for Me at the show, and shared a photo of himself back at the microphone with his fans on Twitter.com, alongside a caption which simply reads: "And we're back."
However, Mayer, who also underwent vocal cord surgery in 2011, admits he still has some way to go before he can consider a proper comeback. In a forthcoming Tv interview with U.S. broadcaster Anthony Mason, which is due to air on 10 February (13), the 35 year old says, "I don't have a ton of range... I'm a 70 year old version of myself. It's like a painter with just reds and purples."
Members of the Zac Brown Band also participated in The Livingston Town Proper: A Concert to Benefit the Fighters of the Pine Creek Fire at Bozeman's Emerson Theater.
