John Lennon's Glasses Sold At Auction

A pair of John Lennon'S iconic round glasses have been picked up at auction by a British collector.

So far, auction organisers have not revealed how much the singer's glasses went for, but the item was expected to fetch about £1 million, the amount they were insured by.

Specialist memorabilia auctioneer and the company that sold the glasses 991.com, said there was a confidentiality agreement with the buyer not to reveal how much they had cost.

The lot drew interest from collectors all over the world, reported 991.com's sales and marketing director John Warner.

LENNON's orange-tinted glasses were worn by the Beatles singer and composer throughout their 1966 tour of Japan and later given to a Japanese interpreter as a thank you present.

The band were at the height of their fame, after LENNON had made his well-known 'we're bigger than Jesus' remark.

The interpreter, Junishi Yore, removed the lenses when LENNON was shot outside his New York apartment on December 8th 1980 as a sign of respect.
