John Galliano's New Collection Revealed In Low-key Show
John Galliano, the disgraced British fashion designer who was sacked by Dior in the wake of allegations of anti-Semitism, was absent from the unveiling of his new collection yesterday, reports the UK's Daily Mail. The show went ahead in a Paris townhouse and was accompanied by Adele's hit 'Rolling in the Deep' as well as Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida'. Christian Dior's chief executive Sidney Toledano appeared at the event and reportedly said that he wanted "to support the teams" which put the show together. The ready-to-wear 2012 collection received a mixed reaction from fashion critics but the New York Times reviewed it relatively positively, noting that the show was "Typically Galliano, a mix of romantic dresses, a loosely draped mint kimono with black lace applique, a black vinyl trench and a silk halter dress". Since the 50-year-old's sacking last week, it has not clear whether or not the collection would be shown to the press and buyers at all. However, after negotiations the company's executives settled on holding a low-key presentation instead of a big-budget runway.
John Galliano is rumoured to be in a rehabilitation centre in Arizona on the advice of his close friends in the fashion business.
