John Galliano Stripped Of Legion D'honneur

John Galliano has been stripped of his Legion d'Honneur in France.

The disgraced British designer was given the award - one of the country's highest cultural decorations - in 2009 from then president Nicolas Sarkozy, but after anti-Semitic remarks made by him in 2010 and 2011 it has been decided it should be revoked.

New French president Francois Hollande made the decision last week.

Galliano - who was brought up in London - lost his job as the creative head of French fashion house Dior over the remarks.

He was fined 6,000 euros for ''public insults based on origin, religious affirmation, race or ethnicity'' after drunkenly berating some people he believed to be Jewish and professing a love for Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

However, John - who won British Designer of the Year four times previously - has not been completely shunned by The Fashion community; he created the dress worn by British model Kate Moss at her wedding to rock star Jamie Hince last year.
