Joel Madden - Joel Madden Celebrates Birthday With Australian Tv Nomination11 March 2013
Joel Madden was given an extra special birthday surprise on Monday (11Mar13) as he received a prestigious Australian Tv award nomination for his role on The Voice.
The Good Charlotte star, who is a panellist on the Australian version of the reality Tv show, turned 33 on Monday - the same day he received a nod for Most Popular New Male Talent ahead of the upcoming Logie Awards.
Madden admits he was surprised by the nomination, but feels grateful to have been accepted in his adopted home country.
He says, "Australia is not an easy crowd. They make you work for it, but I respect that, you've got to respect that. I just never could have seen this (nomination) coming... I never thought I could have a career in Tv and I'm starting to believe I could. It's a credit to (Tv bosses at) Channel 9 and Shine, cos (sic) let's be honest I'm not the safest bet on paper, but they believed in me. I was deeply complimented when they asked me to do the show... and just wanted to do a good job."
Madden will compete for the honour against stars including Home and Away actor Will MCDonald and eight-year-old Robert Irwin, son of late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who won a nod for his work on animal show Wildlife Warriors.
The final competitors in the category are Alex Williams (Underground: The Julian Assange Story) and David Campbell (Mornings).
Other nominees at this year's (13) Logie Awards include Memento star Guy Pearce, who is nominated in the Most Outstanding Actor category for his role in drama Jack Irish, and the coveted Most Popular Drama Series prize will be a contest between Home and Away, House Husbands, Offspring, Packed To The Rafters and Puberty Blues.
The Logie Awards will be handed out in Melbourne on 7 April (13). The show will feature performances from Michael Buble and Bruno Mars.
