Joaquin Phoenix Says Sorry To Letterman

JOAQUIN PHOENIX appeared on 'The Late Show with DAVID LETTERMAN' last night (September 22nd 2010), and apologised to the host for his behaviour the last time he was on the show. Back in February 2009, 35-year-old Phoenix showed up sporting a bushy beard and large sunglasses, whilst also mumbling incoherently throughout the interview. However, it has since been revealed that the actor's bizarre performance was part of a hoax, documented in the new film 'I'm Still Here'.
Phoenix told Letterman last night, "I mean, I think that you've interviewed many, many people, and I assumed that you would know the difference between a character and a real person, so - but I apologize. I didn't - I hope I didn't offend you in any way". Reports last week had suggested that the veteran host was in on the prank which saw Phoenix publically state he was quitting acting to pursue a rapping career, however, Letterman denied the claims, asking the actor, "Was there a script that you and I were working with?", to which Phoenix replied, "No" , "Thank you very much. I was not part of it, was I?", said the host, "No", came the reply.
Phoenix was returning to the show to promote the new mockumentary - a product of the elaborate hoax. CASEY AFFLECK directed the movie and in an interview with JAY LENO earlier this week, he confirmed that Letterman was not in on the hoax, stating, "Neither Joaquin or I ever talked to Dave".
