Beloved entertainer Jimmy Tarbuck has become the latest veteran British celebrity arrested for alleged sexual assault of a minor.
Police officials have confirmed the comedian, who famously went to school with John Lennon, was detained at his home in Kingston-upon-Thames last month (Apr13), in connection to an alleged assault on a young boy in the late 1970s.
The 73-year-old funnyman and game show host was released on bail pending further enquiries.
Tarbuck's arrest stems from information passed to Scotland Yard police officials investigating Operation Yewtree, the sex scandal surrounding late Bbc broadcaster Jimmy Savile - but a spokesman insists the comedian's case is not directly part of that investigation.
Asked for a comment on the news of his arrest, Tarbuck told British newspaper The Mirror, "I'm not commenting on this. You need to speak to my solicitor."
