Jimmy Fallon - Jimmy Fallon To Take On Oscars Host Role, Unless Abc Have Anything To Say About It That Is
Jimmy Fallon looks to be the top contender to host 2013's Academy Awards Ceremony next February, whilst Saturday Night Live producer/creator Lorne Michaels is set to produce the extravaganza, the LA Times have reported.
Fallon was a mainstay on SNL from 1998 to 2004 before starting his midnight show in 2009, which is also produced by Michaels.
However, these are only preliminary rumours and if the show's broadcaster, Abc, has anything to say about it then Fallon wont be anywhere near the ceremony. The bigwigs over at the Disney owned Abc are said to be less than happy with the idea of network rival Fallon being the centrepiece of the ceremony, largely down to the fact that Fallon's show is the main competition for their own late night show JIMMY KIMMEL Live!.
However, regardless of being the show's broadcaster, Abc still have no say in the matter of who host the show, that responsibility falls to the academy president, Hawk Koch.
Fallon does seem like a good choice for the role, given his experience in hosting high-status awards shows, including his turn at the 2010 Emmys that was met with almost universally positive reviews. If Abc would rather have their late-night star take the reigns at next years ceremony then they're already out of luck because Kimmel is hosting this year's Emmy Awards, ruling him out of being Oscar host.
