Jimi Hendrix Movie In Doubt After Estate Refuses Use Of Songs
In a statement, the estate said, "Experience Hendrix, Llc, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalogue, has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation". The statement adds that Janie Hendrix, the sister of Jimi, have not "ruled out a biopic in the future", but would have to be fully involved - which sounds ominous for the Andre 3000 movie, scheduled to begin shooting in Ireland in less than three weeks. Several past biopics have been scrapped, most notably, a proposed movie by Paul Greengrass which, again, was opposed by the Hendrix estate. At the time, producer Bill Gerber said of the decision, "It boggles the mind".
'All Is By My Side' was set to focus on the weeks that Hendrix spent in the UK recording his seminal album, 'Are You Experienced'.
