Jewel - Jewel Donates Song Proceeds To Cancer Charity
Singer Jewel is donating all the proceeds from her new track Flower to a charity for breast cancer survivors.
The Who Will Save Your Soul hitmaker has always been an advocate for breast cancer patients and in 2006 she urged U.S. government officials to pass a new bill, which would allow all women undergoing mastectomies to remain in hospital for two days to prevent complications.
And now she has penned a new song to raise awareness about the struggles women face even after they beat the disease.
She says, "When I was writing this song there were a lot of survivors that came to mind and I'm always continually amazed at how resilient women are, and how, when faced with a difficult position, they find the courage to say, 'I am going to fight on and I'm even going to be better.' And that's what made me want to write this song."
But, Jewel wanted to do more than just applaud the strength of survivors - she is donating 100 per cent of the song's earnings to the Breast Reconstruction Awareness Fund of The Plastic Surgery Foundation, which helps females boost their self-confidence after going into remission.
In a post on Twitter.com, she writes, "Has everyone bought my new song Flower? (Yes, its kind of Folkie) itunes, amazon etc. Proceeds help women who have survived breast cancer".
