Jerry Lee Lewis Gives Uncomfortable Birthday Interview
JERRY LEE LEWIS is celebrating his 75th birthday today (29th September 2010), despite giving an uncomfortable Q&A session at Los Angeles' Grammy Museum on Tuesday. CNN report that the legendary singer-songwriter "sat at a piano and mumbled brief answers to a moderator's questions."
Lewis, also known as 'The Killer', is famed for his hits 'Great Balls of Fire' and 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On', but he was reluctant to go into detail about his career during the talk, instead choosing to give short direct answers. When asked about his Sun Records label-mate CARL PERKINS, Lewis said, "A great guy, a very dear friend", before describing CHUCK BERRY as "Awesome, fantastic", and then sharing his reaction upon meeting THE BEATLES, "Those boys are gonna be big". A question about how often the singer sits down at a piano was brushed aside with the response, "A little bit".
Lewis is currently on the promotional trail for his new album 'Mean Old Man', which features KEITH RICHARDS, and when asked whether the record's title referred to himself, he laughed, "No. I just heard the demo on it and I said, 'That is a hit'"
