Jennifer Lawrence Takes Pot Shots At Oscar Rivals On Saturday Night Live

Jennifer Lawrence made everyone feel a little foolish after explaining her “I beat Meryl!” Golden Globes acceptance speech the other weekend, but she might’ve taken it too far this time as, on Saturday Night Live, she took the mick out of all her rivals at the Oscars next month.

Lawrence is up for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, having taken the same category at the Globes. She inadvertently caused controversy by seemingly mocking Streep at the Globes, though she subsequently explained that she was merely making a reference to a line used by the actress Bette Midler in 1996 film The First Wives Club. However, clearly playing on the mini-storm she caused, she took it a step further when hosting Saturday Night at the weekend, reports USA Today.

Telling her fellow Oscar nominees that they “were about to get served”, she started on nine year-old Quvenzhane Wallis, saying "The alphabet called. They want their letters back." Never mind poor taste, that gag suffered from serious levels of bad humour. She took aim at Naomi Watts too, who is up for nomination for her role in The Impossible. “You know what else is impossible? You beating me on Oscar night.” Oh dear. The oddest choice for her, uh, witticisms was Tommy Lee Jones. Last time we checked he wasn’t up for Best Actress, but that didn’t stop J-Law mocking the famously dour actor and calling him "The most fun person I ever met. He's the best. Such a great energy." Poor Tommy, he doesn’t need this.
