Jennifer Aniston's Movie Slammed As 'Depressingly Banal'
In other ways, though, Wanderlust simply appears to be a fairly average light-hearted rom-com with little to set it apart from other current multiplex choices. Brian Lowry, for Variety, accuses the film of trying too hard and fears that blooper reel may well be "superior to the movie." And New York Daily News' Elizabeth Weitzman described the film as "depressingly banal." The film has scored a relatively respectable 75% on the Rotten Tomatoes, site, though, with some critics warming to Aniston and Paul Rudd's on-screen charm. In recent weeks, the US movie industry seems to have experienced something of a turnaround in fortunes, with even seriously poorly reviewed films such as Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance raking in far more than estimated at the box office.
Having recently been honored with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jennifer Aniston will inevitably be hoping that Wanderlust will be the film that gets people talking about her career as much as they do her private life. With headlines like 'Wanderlust goes nowhere' hitting the internet, though, she may need to search elsewhere for the film that will achieve that.
