Jeff Buckley - Jeff Buckley To Be Played By 'Gossip Girl' Star

Jeff Buckley, the late singer-songwriter who died under tragic circumstances in 1997, will be played by the 'Gossip Girl' star Penn Badgley in a forthcoming biopic, according to the UK's Guardian newspaper. Jeff Buckley, best known for his famous cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', will be the subject of the new movie 'Greetings from Tim Buckley'.
Badgley will portray the singer in the project focusing on the singer's relationship with his father, who also died young. The film has the backing of the estate of Buckley senior, but is one of two rival projects vying to hit the big screen first. The film is reportedly set in the days leading up to a 1991 concert, widely considered to be the singer's 'breakthrough performance'. Speaking about Badgley's casting, producer Patrick Milling Smith said, "We had been searching well over a year for an actor that can come close to Jeff's spirit while also having the serious musical chops required to authentically tell this story. Penn's audition blew us away and we knew we had found our star". The second 'Buckley' movie will be a more traditional take on the singer's life, with the likes of Robert Pattinson and Jared Leto being linked to the lead-role.
Jeff Buckley drowned in 1997 at the age of 30 while swimming into the Wolf River in Tennessee. His father, a highly respected folk musician, died of a heroin overdose in 1975.

Guess what? Not interested in seeing Bagley's portrayal as you will see by the numbers when it is out in theaters. I loved Jeff Buckley's music and was sadden by his death. If you wanted to get this movie and people to see just who Jeff Buckley was--should have gone with Pattinson. Leto may have been better not much more than Bagley's casting, but better. It's to bad more people who were not fans that could have been fans will never get to know the great musician Jeff was. , Guess what?
