Award-winning jazz musician Roy Hargrove has been sentenced to two days of community service after admitting cocaine possession.
The acclaimed trumpeter, 44, who has worked with musical greats including Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder, was arrested in New York in the early hours of 5 April (14) after cops caught him with four packets of the drug, the New York Post reports.
During an appearance at Manhattan Criminal Court in New York City on Thursday (29May14), Judge Neil Ross handed him the community service sentence and urged the musician to stay out of trouble in future, telling Hargrove, "I hope we can be confident about the fact we won't see you in this building again. There are other places people want to see you and people who've wanted to see you for a very long time - just not here."
If the Grammy winner avoids further run-ins with the law and completes his community service, the charge will be reduced from a misdemeanour to a violation, leaving him with no criminal record.
