Jay-z Blames Sigel's Lack Of Drive For Fame Flop

02 November 2009
JAY-Z has fired back at rapper Beanie Sigel's new lyrical attack, blaming his former protege for failing to make the most of his shot at fame.

Sigel signed to Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records in 1998 and landed major appearances on a number of the rap superstar's songs.

He went on to release two albums under Jay-Z's supervision but failed to achieve the level of success expected, leaving the label earlier this year (09).

Sigel released a new song last week (ends30Oct09) taking aim at his former boss, accusing Jay-Z of not doing enough to give him and his group State Property the same exposure as other Roc-A-Fella artists.

Speaking to a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania radio DJ on Friday (30Oct09), Sigel said, "As far as the push that people coulda (sic) got that really could have did (sic) things, (Jay-Z) didn’t do that. If you look at 50 Cent... (his crew G-Unit) got more money... than anybody in State Property. Because 50 made sure of that. 50 took his people on tour and paid them..."

But his accusations have riled Jay-Z, who famously refuses to respond to petty arguments, and the mogul has hit back, insisting it was Sigel who squandered away his own money and opportunities after helping him set up a clothing line too.

The Run This Town hitmaker says, " Beanie Sigel at the time... was driving two Bentleys... I don't know what more you can do for somebody.

"What people choose to do when they obtain that type of success, at some point you have to look in the mirror and look at yourself. Beanie Sigel had a record deal, a record label and a clothing line, and never went platinum, ever. I don't know in the history of rap has anyone done so much with so little. So, I don't even know what more you can do for a person at that point. A record deal, that's normal. A record label and a clothing line, if that's not pushing the person, then s**t!"
