Jason Statham's Stallone Love
Jason Statham wanted to work on 'The Expendables' because he was desperate to star alongside ''cinema god'' Sylvester Stallone, who he believes is one of the world's biggest movie stars.
Jason Statham agreed to star in 'The Expendables' so he would work with "cinema god" Sylvester Stallone.
The hunky actor - who portrays violent knife-thrower Lee Christmas in the action war movie - admits he was interested in the action movie as soon as he learnt he would be starring alongside such a "recognised" movie star.
He said: "I got a call and was asked if I'd have something to eat with Sylvester Stallone because he wanted to talk to me about the film. He is like a cinema god! I grew up watching his films like 'Rambo' and Rocky'. I think Sly is as big as they come. He is the most recognised film star in the world. I've seen all his movies. I'm very familiar with everything he's done. That's why I got so excited about doing this film."
Despite being in awe of the Hollywood legend - who wrote, starred in and directed the film - Jason has joked Sylvester turned into a "bully" in the movie.
The 37-year-old actor joked to OK! magazine: "He's a bit of a bully actually. He carries a big stick around and starts ordering tea and coffee.
"I found myself in a situation where I got to know the real man behind the camera. He wasn't the filmmaker any more, he was just a regular guy. I think that was the best part about working with Sly - getting to know him as a person."
