Jarvis Cocker - Jarvis Cocker Tricks Himself Into Writing Tracks

Jarvis Cocker has to ''trick'' himself into writing songs.

The Pulp frontman admits he has no typical routine when it comes to penning new material and can't force himself to write new tracks.

He said: ''I'm always thinking about songs and always writing ideas down. But I thought I'd take a bit of time off and see what happened.

''When it comes to songwriting, I know some people do have a routine and I really admire that. I've never been able to do that.

''I always have to play little tricks on myself in order to make myself write a song. I have to trick myself into not even noticing I wrote one.''

Talking about his solo career, he added: ''I am still tempted to make music but whether or not I will inflict it on anybody else that remains to be seen.''

Any new material Jarvis pens is unlikely to be recorded by Pulp as he is happier for them to continue performing their old songs, as they have done since reforming last year.

He added to NME magazine: ''I don't know about new Pulp songs. I mean, I've enjoyed doing these shows because the idea was - could we manage to do it again, to make it feel like it was worth doing, and make it sound right? And I think we managed to do that.

''I suppose once you've done that, the next thing is, would you make some new music? I've enjoyed the fact that we haven't been doing any new stuff, because I feel that's kept it quite simple. It's a hard one.

''We haven't been in the studio or anything, certainly. I don't know what will happen in the future.''
